Puru's Service
A Tribute to Sripad Puru das Prabhu

Oh how Srila Prabhupada loved his disciples. Does he still? You bet. The famous ones? The 'small guy' who follows his heart and adheres to the truth and serves Prabhupada's Lotus Feet? You bet. Puru Prabhu with his family and friends started the Bhaktivedanta Memorial Library where they began to question the 'authority' statements of others and to investigate and document the truth of our sampradaya from the 1400's to present day. One will find at BVML our sampradaya acharyas' writings, prayers, and songs, as well as reasoned, rational commentaries which address all the truths regarding Krishna Consciousness.

Puru refused to reject Prabhupada's friends, godbrothers, and their disciples just because of someone's or some group's subjective interpretation of Prabhupada's will. He followed Lord Nityananda's principle and Prabhupada's principle of inclusion rather than exclusion. For this he endeared himself to Sri Guru and Gauranga, Vaishnavas, and to many laymen and scholars as well. He did what was right instead of what was easy. He followed Lord Gaurasundar's admonishment "Trinad api sunicena": humility, tolerance, keeping away from conceit and desire for fame and following, respect for others, and constant recitation of Sri Krishna's names.

For this he received Prabhupada's mercy: the topmost goal of the spiritual seeker.

He was an excellent example of 'following your heart', where Sri Gauranga and Srila Prabhupada reside. After all, how will the world unite in the age of quarrel under the banner of Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu when all the different branches of Mahaprabhu's tree are quarreling with each other themselves?

BVML is required reading for every student of Theology; as Sri Brajendra Nandana Shyama is the Ekala-Iswara (The Supreme Enjoyer and Controller), every Yogi; as Bhakti is the topmost yoga, and every Lightworker; as Sri Gaurasundara Mahaprabhu is The Light for this dark age.

With sadness at the departure of Prabhupada's dear son and our dear god-brother, I offer my humble obeisances to Sripada Puru Prabhu, his family, and his friends. Srila Narottam das Thakur said it best in the last line of Sri Krsna-Caitanya Prabhu Daya Kara More (to be found at Punah Prarthana (Another Prayer)] Song 40: ramacandra-sanga mage narottama-dasa. Narottama dasa prays that he may always have the company of Ramacandra Cakravarti.

We always want the association of devotees like Puru Prabhu.

[From his godbrother Madhavananda dasa]
